The Faceless
The Faceless is a first-person horror game built for the second semester Prototyping Lab 2 - Affect unit. You are an explorer of abandoned buildings and have broken into the long-abandoned Mannequin Corp. (aka ManneCo.) factory. Along the way, you discover that you are far from alone in there, as the factory’s mannequins prove to be a little more alive than you thought they would be…
Given the goal was to invoke an emotion in the player, I decided to make this project a horror game. My inspirations came from Terminator: Resistance, Poppy Playtime, Routine, and Alien: Isolation, among others, with thematic influences from science-fiction films such as I, Robot and The Terminator.
This was designed and built within the timeframe of 16 weeks, during which I planned out the gameplay and level, built mechanics and tested aspects. Based on feedback given during the development time, I made some changes and tweaks.
You can see the second presentation, which includes my schedule and Trello links, here.
As this was intended as a vertical slice, the level itself is quite short, with gameplay lasting 5-10 minutes at most.
I built the level and gameplay within Unreal Engine 5.2. The gameplay logic was constructed by myself using Unreal Engine 5’s blueprint system.
presentation
We were tasked with creating two presentations as part of our assignment - a pitch presentation at the beginning of preproduction, and a second in the middle of production. These included mood boards and inspirations, a schedule, a link to a trello board, and space to take questions.

TRY IT OUT!
For those who are curious and would like to see the finished project I submitted for this unit, I am offering a download link. Please note that as this was built with Unreal Engine 5, it requires a machine capable of running Unreal Engine 5 games.
